Draft Companion: Live NBA Fantasy Draft Tracker
The Draft Companion is a live draft tracker for NBA fantasy basketball. You run your draft on ESPN, Yahoo or wherever your league drafts, and add each pick to the Draft Companion as it happens to see how your team is shaping up.
What it shows you
- Your roster, with the slot each player fills (PG, SG, SF, PF, C, G, F or utility) when roster-position enforcement is on.
- Your team's per-game stats and projected season totals compared with an average team at the same point in the draft.
- A preview of how any player would change your team before you pick them.
- A watchlist for the players you are targeting.
- A position-balance setting that marks down positions that are easy to replace and nudges picks toward the ones you are short on, so a punt build does not leave you with nine guards.
- Catch-up weighting that raises a category's importance when your team falls below average in it, and players you cannot legally add, like a fifth center, sink to the bottom instead of being recommended.
Points, 9-category and rotisserie formats
Choose a points, 9-category, rotisserie or Yahoo high-score format, with ESPN or Yahoo scoring. In category formats a punt strategy panel recommends a build after your first three picks, or you can commit to one from the first pick, and ranks the available players by how well they fit it. You can switch strategies, rank by average draft position instead, or turn the system off. In points formats there is no strategy to choose: players are ranked by how many fantasy points they are worth above the typical player in your draftable pool, with a light position check.
Set it up your way
Set the number of teams (up to 20) and the roster size (10 to 20 players), and turn roster-position enforcement on or off.

Staying up to date with your draft
The Draft Companion never connects to your ESPN or Yahoo account. Instead, you copy the picks from your draft room and paste them in, and it removes every player who has been drafted so your list only shows who is still available.
- Draft as normal in your draft room, and press + next to a player in the Draft Companion whenever you make a pick to add them to your team.
- Every so often, select the pick list in your draft room (for example, the Picks panel on ESPN) and copy it. Extra words do not matter, because only the player names are picked out.
- Paste it into Sync Draft Picks and press Sync picks. Everyone named is removed from your list, and a summary shows who went. Players already on your team are left alone.
- Repeat whenever you want to catch up. If a name is unclear it asks you, and Undo this sync reverses the whole batch.
About the Draft Companion
The Draft Companion is a live draft tracker for NBA fantasy basketball. You run your draft on ESPN, Yahoo or wherever your league drafts, and add each pick here as it happens, or paste the pick history into Sync Draft Picks, to see how your team is shaping up and which available players fit it best.
In category formats every available player gets a nine-category rating, and a punt strategy panel can recommend a build after your first three picks. In points formats players are ranked by fantasy points value, with no strategy to set. In both, it checks your roster slots, keeps your roster from stacking one position, and sinks players you cannot legally add, like a fifth center, to the bottom of the list.
Common questions
Does it connect to my ESPN or Yahoo draft?
No. It never logs into an account. You add your own picks, and Sync Draft Picks lets you paste the pick history from any draft room so the players already taken are removed from your list.
Do I have to use a punt strategy?
No. Punt strategies only apply to 9-category and rotisserie formats, and the whole system can be turned off. By default your first three picks stay strategy-free and a strategy is recommended after that.
Why is a player ranked far from his ADP?
ADP is where players actually get drafted across every kind of league, while the rating is a nine-category value. A player with one very large weakness, such as turnovers or free throw percentage, can rank well below his ADP. Hover any score to see that player's strongest and weakest category.
Which formats and league sizes does it support?
ESPN and Yahoo scoring in points, 9-category and rotisserie formats, plus Yahoo high score, for leagues of up to 20 teams and rosters of 10 to 20 players.
Is it free?
Yes, the Draft Companion is free to use.
